...but perhaps not 7 rest days!!!
Apologies for the lack of posts, there's not really been much to report. Paracas is a cool place (pics to follow when internet is better), but we've been here a week now and can't wait to escape!
Reason 1 for staying was the independence day celebrations and lack of hotels nearby
This taught us how to party Peru style... Get up before first light, bang drums and sing until an hour after sunrise, go about you daily business, then repeat from about 10pm through to the next sunrise.
Reason 2 I've been enhancing my digestive flora
Before I type this DAD I AM FINE, DON'T PANIC OR WORRY, JUST A MILD CASE OF "DADDY MY TUMMY FEELS FUNNY"... ALL BETTER NOW THOUGH :)
Let's just say I didn't enjoy the celebrations much but have hopefully now built up some immunity. Travellers' tummy was inevitable at some point, but we weren't quite prepared for it to come so soon!! Could have been FAR worse though, we've sampled 3hotels, all within about a 50m radius, been to the 'American pancakes and fruit shakes shack' so many times they said we can just go there to use WiFi if we want, (yes Val, I've been living off pancakes, bread and sweet tea for 5days!), and had a really interesting trip to the local medical centre... Just to get some antibiotics in case we need it on the road. (I ended up being prescribed the right Penecillin free antibiotics (thanks Laura) alongside... Wait for it... A cocktail of dopamine inhibitors and narcotics ... That we initially thought were probiotics... Ok so although their initial indication is for epilepsy, depression and acute pain they do also happen to easy tummy cramps and clog you up as a side effect!!... Needless to say I'll not be taking them, but might slip them into the medi kit, just in case the hills get all too much :-) ... Forever thankful for both my ex career in pharma and my Nana, for giving me the ability and paranoia to check and double check suitability of meds before downing them :-)... Mind you I could have been flying today!! .. Perhaps Ant will sneak one in my tea later!!)...
Ant meanwhile has been going as crazy as a greyhound in a small cage. The highlight of Friday was him coming back from a walk to report he had found fluffy white birds that were super cute, watched pelicans diving for food, and saved a small girl from a timid puppy (tu hables inglises senior?... I ...don't... like ...dogs...) she said whilst staring at the ball of fluff in fear. Ant gallantly (he reported) shued the little fellow away and all was well. Yesterday he came home from a jaunt, brandishing 12 brown rolls with glee... Look what I found for you... I couldn't have been happier... Or more proud.
So today we leave, narcotics in hand, and (perhaps ambitiously) hope to find a taxi to take us and the bikes to Tambo Colarado, our first glimpse at an Inca ruin sight (other than the small museum in Paracas, which has a really interesting collection of extended skulls). We'll then head on a 25km cycle into the mountains (should be easier as I'm now so much lighter... Cav would be proud!) ... Taking it super easy, and hopefully finding somewhere to stay. I may well be watching Ant do laps of the Andes while I plug along :-).
love to all at home...
... And SERIOUSLY Dad, don't worry, I'm fine :-) xxxxxxx

Proud of your pharmaceutical sleuthing skills, Emma! and proud of Ant's small-fluff-shooing skills. I see I have another instalment to read, hoping that the 25km run into the mountains was successful...
